Techniques to effectively convey and receive information 

Communication is not what you say but what others understand: the emitter of the message is responsible considering the medium. Only a small part of communication is conveyed by words: 60% body language, 30% tone of voice, 10% choice of words. The emitter is responsible for the message, not the receivers.

Different forms of communication are adapted to specific needs, such as:

Written communication must be used to keep track of decisions, specifications and commands. It takes the form of reports, e-mails and contracts. If a client provides oral instructions, it is the PM’s duty to transfer them into written form to confirm understanding as well as creating a track record of decisions and changes.

Oral communication allows consultation and quick feedback. Ideal for coordination, to motivate, incite, convince and obtain a quick response. It is used in interviews, meetings and project reviews. All meetings should be summarized in reports for later reference.

Visual communication allows a quick understanding. It is done through visual aids such as gantt charts, schedules, tables, illustrations and mind-maps.
