Scrum Definition of Done

All work that must be done to complete the task

  • The Definition of Done DoD is a formal description of the state of the Increment when it meets the quality measures required for the product.

  • DoDs can be expressed as checklists, for example: to deliver a new feature in the product we need to:

  • DoDs creates transparency by providing everyone a shared understanding of what work was completed as part of the Increment.

  • If organization has standards for an increment, all Scrum Teams must follow them as a minimum.

  • If it is not an organizational standard, the Scrum Team must create a Definition of Done that is appropriate for the product.

  • The Developers collaborate to create or extend the Definition of Done and are required to conform to it.

  • If there are multiple Scrum Teams working together on a product, they must mutually define and comply with the same Definition of Done.

  • If a Product Backlog item does not meet the Definition of Done, it cannot be released or even presented at the Sprint Review.

  • All the Sprint work that is not completed must be returned to the Product Backlog for future consideration.
