Flow zone

The right state to be fully creative

The concept of Flow (Csikszentmihalyi 2011) is a state of mind between boredom and anxiety where you perform and feel your best.

Flow is the experience of being so engaged in a task that you lose track of time.

As a manager you can adjust the difficulty of work with tasks that are slightly harder than what the team can do comfortably to help them find their Flow.

The Flow zone is a fine line between bore-out and burn-out.

The key idea is to match the skill level to the complexity of the task: too easy tasks put people in the bore-out zone, too complex tasks and you drive people into the burn-out zone.
